Building my website

January 5, 2026

I've always wanted to build my own website. I knew it would be faster to use Wordpress or even Squarespace, but what's the fun in that. I have been playing around with Django and figured it'd be worth a shot, even though it's probably overkill. Learning the framework has been great and I've really enjoyed how mostly simple it is. On the front-end, I ended up using AI to develop the HTML along with CSS (using bootstrap). I'm not a front-end dev and don't ever want to be. Despite using very vague prompts, ChatGPT did a pretty great job making it all work. I also ended up using AI to help me deploy the site to fly.io. Despite some failed attempts, and learning that I also needed persistent storage on fly.io (makes sense), it's up and running now. It's been great learning Django as well as the deployment side of things. I'm looking forward to writing on my blog and making updates to the website! Cheers to 2026.
